SS #26: Education is an Atmosphere
Today, we kick off a series of three episodes that were recorded live online with some of our Forum members. This series is organized around Charlotte Mason’s motto that education is an atmosphere, a discipline, and a life. Today’s episode is all about atmosphere.

This episode is sponsored by The Art of Homeschooling. It’s the truth: The perfect plan will never be perfectly executed. Homeschool days will go horribly wrong. Our energy will fizzle out and our attention will wane. Our kids dawdle, complain, and bicker. It happens. To work our plan isn’t to fix ourselves, our home, or our children so that such things never happen. No, to work our plan is to have strategies for handling life even when it goes off the rails, because that’s when important lessons are learned by all. Click here and find the box to download the free motivation prep sheet at the bottom of the page that will help you discipline & organize your homeschool morning attitude, even when it’s been two hours since your last cup of coffee.

I really needed to kick in the pants to work on the atmosphere of our home! On the topic of what escapes our lips aka gossip, I always think of the quote attributed to Eleanor Roosevelt: “Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people.” Nothing but great minds on this podcast!
Ooh! What a great quote! ♥
What an excellent episode. Thank you. You mention Hero Tales. Would you provide a link to the book. ?
Whoops! I think I wasn’t clear. Hero tales is just the category of story — books like Fifty Famous Stories or the biographies by the D’Aulaires would qualify. American folk tales, Greek hero tales, etc. 🙂
Antonia is definitely pronounced “An-toe-nee-ah”
I love that you commented about this, Antonia! ♥
I was shouting in my kitchen, “Dick Whittington!” My daughter (6) and I listened to the audio book about 6 mos ago. It’s a good one!
Ha! I love that you knew the name I was trying to remember!
