Description
Get the cure to “noisy gong” syndrome.
If I speak in the tongues of Greeks or Romans, Italians or Frenchmen, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
And if I have arithmetical powers, and understand all educational principles and all knowledge, and if I have all leisure, so as to never experience stress, but have not love, I am nothing.
We know the truth.
We know that all the law and prophets can be summed up in the word love. We know God is love. We know the greatest of faith, hope, and love is love.
We know the whole education project is summed up as ordo amoris – the right ordering of loves.
Yet, we struggle.
You want your day to be full of love and joy, but bad attitudes crop up so readily. If it’s not the kids, it’s you.
You want your kids to remember you and your homeschool days positively, but you also want to make sure they do their work – and getting that point across in nice-mom-voice isn’t working.
You want your kids to love learning, but you don’t see that happening right now – what is broken? Isn’t this all supposed to be enjoyable?
You do love your kids, but being around each other all day every day isn’t making feeling or expressing that love easy. You know your kids do love you, but that’s not what comes out during math lessons.
You love the idea of homeschooling, but loving the day-to-day is a different story.
How do we reconcile love and a work ethic?
We picture love as all the fun connections with our kids, as the aha moments and sudden flashes of insight and delight.
But most of the time we’re just doing the work, checking the work, making sure the work has been done, and supervising the revision of poorly done work.
We seem to have two settings:
Get things done and do the work well with effort, tears, and exhaustion.
Have fun, kick back, enjoying being with our kids.
We try to build more of the former and cut back on the latter.
However, the reality is that the latter is part of what makes the former possible – when it’s done in love.
Love can be found in hard work, bad days, and false starts.
Love doesn’t have to be pampered into existence.
Real love is stronger, tougher, and bigger than anyone’s transient emotions or momentary whims.
We need to make sure our definitions and expectations surrounding love are true, not shaped by the world and its lies.
Love grows best in the midst of a full, real life – as long as love for God, wisdom, and others drive us more than self-love.

Love is patient during math lessons.
Love is kind when tired.
Love is not arrogant or rude even if others are ignorant or stubborn.
Love does not insist on its own way even if it was a good idea.
Love rejoices with the truth.
That’s the kind of bigger, stronger, tougher love we need to grow up into, more and more. A love like God’s love that is not thrown off by others’ problems, that is not deterred through the path of suffering, that is not weakened over time.
It is God’s love alone that will get us through. And it is God’s love that shines the light of truth across all of life, all of knowledge, all of reality.

We are the Scholé Sisters.
And, like you, we homeschool our kids — for better and for worse – from preschool through high school. We all have struggled feeling like our abilities did not match up to our vocation as a homeschool mom. We have hard and rough days that include yelling, huffy comments, and messy houses. We can cry about that (and sometimes we do). Or, we can laugh. We think we should choose laughter more often.
Homeschooling well can be an overwhelming and lonely task. We will give you practical help to make it less overwhelming and connect you with sisters who can relate to what you are going through and who will help you grow in love of God, your family, and wisdom as you do.
